Commercial and Industrial Gutter Cleaning
Most of our gutter work is commercial. We clear box gutters and valley gutters on industrial units, guttering on schools and public buildings, and full portfolios for property factors and managing agents.
Industrial guttering is a different job from domestic. The runs are longer, the debris load is heavier, and the consequences of an overflow are more expensive. Box gutters in particular silt up gradually and hold standing water long before they block completely, which puts weight on the structure and lets water track back under the roof sheets.
We work to a schedule where clients want one, usually twice a year, and provide a written report with photographs after each visit for the building file.

How We Work
Where the property allows, we clear gutters from ground level using a gutter vacuum system with a camera on the pole, so we can see the condition of the gutter before we start and confirm it is clear when we finish. That keeps operatives off ladders and keeps disruption down.
Where ground level access is not practical, on higher buildings or awkward layouts, we use cherry pickers, mobile access towers and rope access, with a written risk assessment and method statement for the site.
For commercial clients, we supply RAMS in advance, work to your site induction requirements, and can attend outside operating hours where daytime access is not practical.
Recent Work: Rosemount Viaduct, Aberdeen
One of the more demanding gutter jobs we have taken on in the city was the historic Rosemount Viaduct. The height of the structure and its age ruled out any conventional approach, and the work had to be carried out without compromising the fabric of the building.
Our crew used specialist high-reach equipment to clear the full run, working to strict safety protocols throughout given the height involved and the street below. Contributing to the upkeep of a landmark building in Aberdeen is a job the team takes some pride in.

Why Gutters Block in the North East
Autumn leaf fall is the obvious cause and it is why most of our gutter work runs from October through to December. Moss is the bigger long-term problem here.
The north east climate is damp and coastal, which suits moss growth on slate, tile and roof sheeting. Moss breaks up over winter and washes down into the gutter, where it forms a dense mat that holds water rather than moving it. A moss-packed gutter can stay full for weeks and look clear from the ground.
Add wind-driven grit off the coast and spring nesting material, and a run can be effectively blocked with no visible sign until it rains hard.
Signs Your Gutters Need Cleared
- Water spilling over the front lip during heavy rain
- Green staining or growth on the wall below a joint or downpipe
- Plants or grass visible in the gutter line
- Damp patches on internal walls, usually high up
- A downpipe that stays quiet while it is raining
- Water pooling at the base of the wall where the downpipe discharges
- Sagging or pulled brackets on a run
- Birds or vermin nesting in the roofline
The pooling and the quiet downpipe often mean the problem is below the gutter rather than in it. A packed downpipe or a silted gully will hold water back even when the gutter itself is clear. We can check and clear the drainage side on the same visit under our drain and gully cleaning service.

Gutter cleaning is work at height, and on commercial sites the paperwork matters as much as the job.
NEREC holds SSIP and SafeContractor accreditation, works to HS Direct health and safety systems, and holds Acclaim accreditation. Our operatives hold PASMA and IPAF certification for tower and MEWP work. We are an AC Pressure Washers Approved Contractor and members of the FSB, Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce and Moray Chamber of Commerce.
